Hurricane Helene

I honestly didn’t have the bandwidth, both mentally and electrically (physically?), to make this post. I really don’t have the words to describe the horror. Taking and/or saving pictures was definitely the last thing on my mind while all this was going on. None of these pictures, save the screencap of the update regarding the water treatment plant, are mine.

Pictures day of, from my hometown:

This was main street in the mountain city of Boone, North Carolina. I recognize the Mast General Store sign on the right. It’s a large two story candy store that I went to with Justin and his son last year. I had hoped we could go again sometime…

Horror stories like this are a dime a dozen, but after reading three or four of them I just shut down and decided to stay off social media for a while. I can’t handle any more.

I got this message the following morning, on the 28th of September. I had thought to turn my phone on and see if just maybe I could get cell signal. This came through courtesy of Apple’s S.O.S. feature on its newer iPhone models. I felt like this was as close to living in a world like The Division as I ever want to get.

The only positives that came out of all this was that I managed to complete my handwritten log of all my physical video games that I intended to work on while I was off work this week.

I can’t help but feel pain when I think of the people further west from here and just how long its going to take to clean up and repair everything. My beautiful state has been destroyed…
