What I’m Playing, part 1
This week has definitely been a red letter week in terms of gaming success. Not only did I finally participate in the death of Oryx, but my English husband in the UK helped me complete one of the most difficult games I’ve ever played: Bloodborne.
Bloodborne is one of those games that’s very difficult, very punishing at times, but when you succeed it’s so rewarding. Definitely scratches that itch when you make it through a difficult boss battle or area of the game.
Now that I’ve completed the game once, 3 friends on my PSN friends list want help beating it. I said that I would, but I think I may have gotten in over my head a bit because two of the three don’t seem to be as patient as my tutor. It’s going to be a long road to victory for them, but I plan on toughing it out until the end.
One of my favorite things about the game is the music. I love the track that plays during the fight with the Cleric Beast so much that I had to buy it. I occasionally listen to it and think of the fights in the game or just have an epic moment to myself.
The controls take some getting used to, but nothing that can’t be learned or mastered. Learning how to stun enemies with the gun takes some practice, but once you do it’s a very useful skill you’ll need later in the game. Locking on to a target is a little dodgy sometimes, but nothing that can’t be learned or mastered as well.
I enjoy the dark gothic setting and all the creepy things that dwell in the night. I love the models of the enemies as well. I love how the fur or hair on them is fluid and moves around when they do. Killing a particularly tough enemy or creature is, again, so rewarding. I get a sort of sick satisfaction out of wailing on their dead bodies once they’ve been bested. Oh, and let’s not forget about the ridiculous blood splatter that happens when you’re killing just about anything in the game. It’s a little comedic to zoom in on your character and see them caked in blood from head to toe, glistening in the dim light of the moon or what few torches can be found in dungeons or buildings.
Now that I’ve bested the game once, I plan to do so again now that I’m on New Game+ mode. Plus there’s also all the Chalice Dungeons to explore, which my tutor and I have been enjoying. I just hope that I don’t run out of them any time soon
