What I’m Listening To, part 19

The way these posts work is, I’m going to post the lyrics with my thoughts in between the lines like this.

Depeche Mode - Enjoy The Silence

Words like violence
Break the silence
Come crashing in
Into my little world
Painful to me
Pierce right through me
Can't you understand
Oh my little girl

All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

Vows are spoken
To be broken
Feelings are intense
Words are trivial
Pleasures remain
So does the pain
Words are meaningless
And forgettable

All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

Sometimes, when I hear this part, I realize that I have nothing in my arms. So does that mean that all I ever needed or wanted was nothing? Did Andy mean for us to take it from that perspective?

All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm

I still remember that night I listened to this album in its entirety, curled up with Stuart under a blanket in my cold ass basement room. We had gone to Hickory and at that time, Best Buy still had a CD section. I saw this and on his recommendation, I bought it. I still have the disc somewhere and think of him and that night when I see it, and ever since I heard the news of Andy Fletcher’s passing today.
